Mikayla se­cures a down­hill win in her home town

FORT Wil­liam’s Mikayla Par­ton has taken a win in the Bri­tish Down­hill Se­ries.

The down­hill event took place at Ne­vis Range on Sun­day May 14, with Mikayla, 19, crowned win­ner in the se­nior women’s cat­e­gory.

A stu­dent at West High­land Col­lege, a par­tic­i­pant in West High­land Wheel­ers and staff mem­ber at Ne­vis Range, she also com­petes in the POC Scot­tish En­duro Se­ries where she has placed well.

On the Satur­day, in which the rac­ers prac­tice the course, Mikayla crashed re­sult­ing in some doubts as to wether she would race on Sun­day.

For­tu­nately, she de­cided to com­pete and was pleased with her fi­nal re­sult.

Mikayla placed third in the seed­ing run with a time of six min­utes and 49 sec­onds.

In the race run, Mikayla beat her own time by 16 sec­onds and fin­ished with a time of six min­utes and 33 sec­onds putting her in first place.

Mikayla was over­whelmed with the re­sult and is keen to en- ter more of the Bri­tish Down­hill Se­ries.

She said: ‘I was so happy with my time from the week­end af­ter hav­ing an off in both runs. I re­ally didn’t know what to ex­pect when I went over the fin­ish line. I’m re­ally keen to do more of the Bri­tish Down­hill Se­ries but it all de­pends on money and time off work.’

Mikayla Par­ton was over­whelmed with her re­sults.
