Mikayla secures a downhill win in her home town

FORT William’s Mikayla Parton has taken a win in the British Downhill Series.

The downhill event took place at Nevis Range on Sunday May 14, with Mikayla, 19, crowned winner in the senior women’s category.

A student at West Highland College, a participan­t in West Highland Wheelers and staff member at Nevis Range, she also competes in the POC Scottish Enduro Series where she has placed well.

On the Saturday, in which the racers practice the course, Mikayla crashed resulting in some doubts as to wether she would race on Sunday.

Fortunatel­y, she decided to compete and was pleased with her final result.

Mikayla placed third in the seeding run with a time of six minutes and 49 seconds.

In the race run, Mikayla beat her own time by 16 seconds and finished with a time of six minutes and 33 seconds putting her in first place.

Mikayla was overwhelme­d with the result and is keen to en- ter more of the British Downhill Series.

She said: ‘I was so happy with my time from the weekend after having an off in both runs. I really didn’t know what to expect when I went over the finish line. I’m really keen to do more of the British Downhill Series but it all depends on money and time off work.’
