Oban High teacher assaulted woman
A FORMER Oban High School teacher has had his sentence deferred for a year after a sexual assault against a former pupil.
Boyd Henry Sigerson, 41, admitted touching the 18-year- old woman on her bottom on March 4 in an Oban shop. Sentencing was deferred on May 22 until June 20 for reports.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC told Oban Sheriff Court: ‘It was clearly unacceptable but drunken behaviour. It clearly caused the complainer some distress.
‘It seems to have arisen out of drunkenness more than anything else. He has lost his job, his profession. He is dealing with the loss of his marriage.
‘As a result of this he has lost his reputation. He will never work in this profession again. He has paid very, very dearly for this drunken stupidity.
‘ The court is not condoning this kind of behaviour, but the court has some sympathy with the fallout.’
Sheriff Anderson deferred sentence for a year for Sigerson to demonstrate good behaviour.
‘ The court will be told what you have done with your life,’ she said: ‘All is not lost. You still have a future and talents that could be employed elsewhere.’
