TWO WOMEN from Coll completed the first Stirling Marathon to raise money for cancer charities and services in Argyll and Bute.

Heather Davis and Clara McGhee began training for the challenge in January and also took part in the Tiree half-marathon in April as part of their preparations.

To kickstart their fundraising, they held an Easter dance at An Cridhe, Coll, with both Dun Mor Ceilidh Band and The Camans playing on the night.

The ceilidh was generously supported by the island community as well as Argyll and Bute businesses Lussa Gin and Adlephi Distillery.

The event raised more than £ 3,000 and, combined with marathon sponsorship, the ladies have raised a total of £ 5,682.20.

This was split between the cancer endowment fund for NHS Highland – supporting the work of the day bed unit at Lorn and Islands Hospital – as well as Macmillan Cancer Support across all of Argyll and Bute. The amount raised put Heather and Clara in the top one per cent of fundraisers on Justgiving in May 2017.

Clara and Heather were surprised they enjoyed the marathon as much as they did and are hugely grateful to everyone who helped them raise so much for local causes in Argyll and Bute.
