Violinist Rhona bows out in style
VIOLINIST and Lochaber High School S6 leaver Rhona Mackintosh was awarded Highland Young Musician of the Year 2017 at Sunday’s competition in Nairn.
Rhona fought off five fellow competitors from across the Highlands, performing a 15-minute programme at the evening’s public final to secure her title. She was also awarded the Richardson Trophy for Musical Excellence.
All entrants for this competition are members of one of the Highland Young Musicians music groups and Rhona was joined by fellow Lochaber High School pupil Rosie Clark, who performed on trumpet in the afternoon’s prelim round.
The judges were particularly impressed with the Highland Council’s ‘continued support of the musical development of Highland’s young people, affording them opportunities often not available in many other parts of the country and with the way the competitors conversed with the judging panel and conveyed their obvious enjoyment of playing and participating in a wide variety of musical activities.’
