TWO WEST Highland schools have achieved success at a provincial Mòd.

During the recent Isle of Skye Provincial Mòd 2017, Elgol Primary School’s String Trio gained first place and Plockton Primary’s String Ensemble gained second place in the string group competition. The young musicians were delighted. It was Plockton Primary School String Ensemble’s their first public performance. The Elgol Primary School String Trio were overjoyed as it managed to retain the first place spot for the third year in a row.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: ‘ Both groups were excited to take part and couldn’t wait to add ideas from the adjudicators to their arrangements.

‘They are looking forward to playing their new and improved pieces at their end- of-term celebrations.’ The pupils are taught by the Highland Council’s temporary strings instructor Mhairi Mackinnon.

Music development officer for the council Norman Bolton sent congratulations to everyone involved and acknowledged the important part the pupils’ music tuition plays in their wider education and development of life skills, health and wellbeing.
