Mòd suc­cess for tal­ented young­sters

TWO WEST High­land schools have achieved suc­cess at a provin­cial Mòd.

Dur­ing the re­cent Isle of Skye Provin­cial Mòd 2017, El­gol Pri­mary School’s String Trio gained first place and Plock­ton Pri­mary’s String En­sem­ble gained sec­ond place in the string group com­pe­ti­tion. The young mu­si­cians were de­lighted. It was Plock­ton Pri­mary School String En­sem­ble’s their first pub­lic per­for­mance. The El­gol Pri­mary School String Trio were over­joyed as it man­aged to re­tain the first place spot for the third year in a row.

A High­land Coun­cil spokesper­son said: ‘ Both groups were ex­cited to take part and couldn’t wait to add ideas from the ad­ju­di­ca­tors to their ar­range­ments.

‘They are look­ing for­ward to play­ing their new and im­proved pieces at their end- of-term cel­e­bra­tions.’ The pupils are taught by the High­land Coun­cil’s tem­po­rary strings in­struc­tor Mhairi Mackin­non.

Mu­sic de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer for the coun­cil Nor­man Bolton sent con­grat­u­la­tions to ev­ery­one in­volved and ac­knowl­edged the im­por­tant part the pupils’ mu­sic tu­ition plays in their wider ed­u­ca­tion and de­vel­op­ment of life skills, health and well­be­ing.
