Rain fails to stop play during a busy weekend in Oban

-

I was right about last weekend being hectic. Despite the awful weather it was really busy and I was kept on my toes, writes Kay MacDonald.

I’m really looking forward to the new transit marina being finished, it will make the reception we can offer the passengers so much better, coming off a small slip being used by others onto a busy pavement isn’t ideal but we’ve done our best and it has been appreciated.

We have another three cruise ships calling this month –

Hebridean Sky, Prisendam and Aegean Odyssey – with one of them calling twice. Let’s pray for some sunshine or at least dry days, it’s easier to welcome people to Oban when the rain isn’t dripping down your neck.

The Lorne Highland Games were really well attended and good fun – the weather didn’t seem to put anyone off and I know that a lot of the passengers from Star Pride were excited about being able to go to Highland Games. The bottle stall run by the SWI did really well and sold out by 3pm despite having about 200 bottles, and although I didn’t see the dog show, I really enjoyed seeing all the proud pooches and owners with their rosettes.

The event I’m looking forward to next is the quiz tonight (Thursday) in Cuan Mor for the Teenage Cancer Trust. I love a good quiz and we’re lucky enough to have a few pubs in Oban who offer weekly quizzes as well as frequent charity events. It’s a great way to get your brain cells ticking over and I’m always amazed by the random facts I remember – never useful ones, just random.

If anyone is planning any events remember to add them to Oban What’s On or let us know about them. The more word gets about the better the attendance will be. The LoveOban facebook page is also there for what’s going on in the town, with messages from and about local businesses and some of the random things that can catch my interest during the week.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and the sun splits the sky for the start of the school holidays, much needed by pupils and teachers alike.

The picture last week was the railings along the burn in Airds Crescent and this week isn’t too far away.
