Oban Saints get back in training
AFTER a well- earned break, Oban Saints players get back to pre-season training on Wednesday July 5 at Oban Lorne Rugby Club, starting at 6.30pm.
Although failing to pick up any silverware last season, it was still a great effort by the players, reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Amateur Cup for the second time in two years, losing out in a penalty shootout in the final of the Jimmy Marshall Cup and finishing second in a very competitive SAFL Premier Division.
Manager Alex Craik is looking to strengthen his squad and is asking any new players to turn up to training next Wednesday.
The first outing of the season will see the Oban side take on Scottish professional teams Dundee United, Hamilton Accies, Alloa Athletic and Berwick Rangers in the D& K Cup tournament on Saturday July 8 at Mossfield.
This is followed by three friendly matches - Vale of Leven Juniors on Saturday July 22, South Lochaber Thistle on Saturday July 29; Lochgilphead Red Star on Wednesday August 2, before heading for the A& B Cup tournament in Lochgilphead on Saturday August 5.
Saints have been drawn in a tough group alongside Rothesay Brandane, Dunoon and Neilston.
