Skye and Raasay chair­man ap­pointed

COUN­CIL­LOR John Gor­don has been ap­pointed chair­man of the Isle of Skye and Raasay Com­mit­tee of The High­land Coun­cil which met last week in Portree.

Speak­ing af­ter chair­ing the meet­ing, which gave mem­bers the op­por­tu­nity to scru­ti­nise the Scot­tish Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice’s lo­cal per­for­mance re­port as well as the area’s hous­ing per­for­mance re­port from April 1 2016 to March 31 2017, Mr Gor­don said: ‘It is go­ing to be a hon­our to serve as chair­man of the com­mit­tee and I am sure we will all work well as a team to en­sure the voices of the com­mu­ni­ties we rep­re­sent are heard.

‘The High­land Coun­cil ad­min­is­tra­tion has given a firm com­mit­ment to in­crease the role for area com­mit­tees so I look for­ward to em­brac­ing the new op­por­tu­ni­ties and see­ing the com­mit­tee evolve and take on a wider re­mit.’ He added: ‘I would like to thank my ward col­leagues for their sup­port. It’s a great priv­i­lege to serve the peo­ple of Skye and Raasay. We are com­mit­ted to work­ing hard and de­liv­er­ing the pri­or­i­ties of this great area. We ac­knowl­edge there is much to do but with the am­bi­tion and vi­sion we all share, we know much can be achieved so this area con­tin­ues to be a great place to live, work and visit.’
