Posh frocks, kilts and suits at high school graduations
IT WAS posh frocks, kilts and suits all round for Lochaber High School’s sixth year graduation.
Seventy-four sixth years crossed the red carpet on the school stage in front of proud parents, grandparents, family and friends and were awarded a graduation certificate recognising their contribution to the school and wishing them well for the future.
Head teacher Jim Sutherland said: ‘The end of the school year is always a significant time for our sixth years as they leave school and move on to pastures new. However, 2017 has an added significance as this year’s sixth year leavers are the last group to have been born in the 20th century.
‘Since our sixth years were born in 1999 or 2000, much has changed in the world, much has changed in Scottish education and much has changed in Lochaber High School.
‘ We can’t see what lies ahead but, looking back at photos from their time at Lochaber High, it is clear we have a cohort full of potential, active, good-humoured, hard-working and equipped with many of the skills required to move forward with confidence. We wish you all the very best for the future.’
After the graduation ceremony, organised by depute head teacher Elizabeth Gow, sixth years and staff moved on to the Ben Nevis Hotel for a buffet followed by dancing to music from former pupil Robert Robertson of upcoming band Tide Lines.
Ardnamurchan High School held its annual graduation dinner with staff and sixth year pupils at Mingarry Park restaurant.
Head teacher Christopher Millar- Craig praised the achievements of the young people over their years at Ardnamurchan High School and in his speech, shared memories and stories provided by the young people. Each S6 pupil received a commemorative Ardnamurchan High School conference folder.
Mr Millar- Criag said: ‘ We are always very proud of the achievements of our young people, and it is particularly poignant to share with our S6 at the graduation dinner. We wish them every success in their next steps as they move on from Ardnamurchan High School.’
