Athletics club hosts Eagle Crag race

-

THIRTY-FIVE runners took part in Lochaber Athletics Club’s Eagle Crag race at the weekend.

Runners, most representing Lochaber and the Highlands, enjoyed good conditions, with light showers to stop overheating and enough of a breeze to keep the midges at bay.

Stephen Traill was strong on the first climb and built a solid lead over the rest of the field, but a bad line of descent down to the West Highland Way cost him his lead.

Richard Macleod took full advantage of this and lead the field to the finish. A club spokesperson said he was ‘looking forward to a few battles between these two this season’.

Alan Smith had another cracking race finishing first of the fifties and fifth overall.

Diana Macdonald ran her first Eagle Crag, breaking the ladies record by 55 seconds - a record which could stand for a while.
