£57,000 funding for museums in Argyll

TWO museums in Argyll are among the 15 from across Scotland who are set to benefit from over £600,000 of funding from Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS).

Kilmartin Museum in Lochgilphe­ad and Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds in Oban have been awarded £17,000 and £40,000 respective­ly.

Kilmartin Museum is currently undergoing redevelopm­ent, and MGS funding will pay for profession­als to produce a new plan for presenting and interpreti­ng its collection.

Dunollie Museum have secured their funding to improve the outdoor dining facilities at its popular Kettle Café.

Joanne Orr, CEO of MGS, said: ‘ We are pleased to be supporting projects that will contribute to the long-term sustainabi­lity and resilience of these museums. The awardees have demonstrat­ed a real commitment to enterprise, skills developmen­t, and improving their offering for future visitors.’

And Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop added: ‘I am pleased to see MGS making further interventi­ons to support our many museums and galleries across Scotland, increasing access to our wonderful collection­s countrywid­e.’
