£57,000 fund­ing for mu­se­ums in Argyll

TWO mu­se­ums in Argyll are among the 15 from across Scot­land who are set to ben­e­fit from over £600,000 of fund­ing from Mu­se­ums Gal­leries Scot­land (MGS).

Kil­martin Mu­seum in Lochgilp­head and Dunol­lie Mu­seum, Cas­tle and Grounds in Oban have been awarded £17,000 and £40,000 re­spec­tively.

Kil­martin Mu­seum is cur­rently un­der­go­ing re­de­vel­op­ment, and MGS fund­ing will pay for pro­fes­sion­als to pro­duce a new plan for pre­sent­ing and in­ter­pret­ing its col­lec­tion.

Dunol­lie Mu­seum have se­cured their fund­ing to im­prove the out­door din­ing fa­cil­i­ties at its pop­u­lar Ket­tle Café.

Joanne Orr, CEO of MGS, said: ‘ We are pleased to be sup­port­ing projects that will con­trib­ute to the long-term sus­tain­abil­ity and re­silience of th­ese mu­se­ums. The awardees have demon­strated a real com­mit­ment to en­ter­prise, skills de­vel­op­ment, and im­prov­ing their of­fer­ing for fu­ture vis­i­tors.’

And Cul­ture Sec­re­tary Fiona Hys­lop added: ‘I am pleased to see MGS mak­ing fur­ther in­ter­ven­tions to sup­port our many mu­se­ums and gal­leries across Scot­land, in­creas­ing ac­cess to our won­der­ful col­lec­tions coun­try­wide.’
