Work on vital bridge nears completion

-

WORK to improve a vital community link in Fort William could be completed this week.

The Highland Council hopes the £ 300,000 revamp of the Soldiers Bridge, which crosses the River Lochy between Black Parks Road, Inverlochy, and Lochyside, will be finished this week.

The bridge, which connects people on the National Cycle Network route 78, the Caledonia Way, would then hopefully be open to the public.

The project has being delivered by Highland Council in partnership with Sustrans Scotland and Transport Scotland.

A Highland Council spokesperson told the Lochaber

Times: ‘Before the work started, access to the bridge had been restricted for some time because of the failure and subsequent closure of the northern ramp.

‘The new ramp is wider and the bridge deck and handrails have also been replaced with upgraded materials.

‘We thank walkers and cyclists for their patience during the works and for using the signposted diversion which has been in place.’
