Fort lose to Ross County from the last ball of the match

-

AN EVEN contest, with some controversy, saw Fort lose to Ross County from the last ball of the match.

Batting first, Fort looked in a strong position but fell away from 115- 4 to 133 all out. Ash Anjum top scored with 41 and Col Jennings made a useful 30. But after Ronnie Maclean went for 18 there was little resistance. Sugden, the County bowler was unable to complete his first over having been judged to have bowled three no-balls above waist height.

Still Fort felt they were in with a chance and the strong opening partnership of Duncan and Ross Lavin meant Ross struggled for runs. Davidson chipped in with the wicket of Bishop and Colin Lavin dismissed top scor- ers Sugden (31) and Embleton (32). Two run outs and some tight bowling by Anjum (0-12 from 9 overs) set the scene for a close finish. However, Davidson became the second bowler to be withdrawn after his third high no-ball and Fort were unable to prevent the last Ross pair hitting the winning run from the last ball of the match.

Captain David Duncan expressed his disappointment at coming so close. He said: ‘Once again we fielded two new players and everyone did their best. It is never good to lose but we will come back from this stronger than ever.’

FWCC practice session is every Tuesday evening at the Cricket Ground by Stramash (the former BA Club) starting at 5pm.

All welcome, so head along and give cricket a go.
