Mull rally driver is denied win in Wales
TOBERMORY’S Alasdair Currie was denied victory at last weekend’s Nicky Grist Rally in Builth Wells when his Fiesta ST came to a halt after losing a wheel.
Fiesta ST Trophy front-runner Currie has been hot on the pace and battling for victory over the last few championship rounds.
The rear right stub axle sheared off the car on a slow corner, immediately launching the Fiesta into a ditch. The team knew their day was over as the wheel flew past the car as they came to a stop.
Alasdair said: ‘I drove clean and made sure I made no mistakes, and this is how I was rewarded. Clearly, I am gutted not to have finished. However, there are plenty of positives to take from the weekend.’
Currie’s championship hopes have been dented, and with two rounds remaining the crew need to finish on the podium on the final two events to secure second place overall in the championship.
‘I have proved my pace this year and always drove with a sensible head. All we can do is keep fighting and make sure we can go to the last two rounds in September. We will learn from this and hopefully prevent the same thing happening again,’ said Currie.
