Money-saving ideas the council can adopt

-

Sir, Surely the problem with Argyll and Bute Council is not that we pay their top staff too much. Isn’t the issue really that we must pay more to find people who know about business and live in the 21st century?

The local authority would save money by having video links in libraries to councillors and officers to cut down on travel time and cost. UHI Argyll College has this technology and could provide user support.

Similarly, instead of paying postage, using email would reduce council tax bills and other unnecessary costs.

The council could copy moneysaving ideas from other authorities and sell off Lorne House in Oban for flats and let staff ‘hot desk’ at other offices or working from home ad having phone calls there. No travelling time and decent coffee definitely have their advantages and Skype allows everyone to keep up with the gossip and scandal.

But, hey, it’s only residents’ money so why do executives need to bother themselves? Mike Foster, Sannox, Crannaig a Mhinister, Oban.
