Euan rides high onto podium
A YOUNG Taynuilt boy is riding high having recently won the 2017 ACU Acklams British Youth Solo Trials D Route Championship.
Accompanying Euan Sim, 8, on the podium was trials legend Dougie Lampkin who has won five consecutive World Indoor Championships and seven consecutive World Outdoor Championships.
In round one of the British Championship at Elton in Derby, Euan achieved an excellent third place. In round two at Skipton, Yorkshire, he went one better and finished second and in round three at Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire, he achieved another second place. In an exciting final round at Bracken Rocks in Derby, he hit top form and finished first.
Up until the final round, Euan was sitting in second place, three points behind championship leader Elliot Smith, the son of Oset Bike president Iain Smith, and only one point ahead of third-placed Will Sagar.
It was clearly all going to be down to the final round and, thanks to some brilliant riding, Euan won decisively to take the coveted championship.
He finished on 69 points with Will Sagar second on 65 points and Elliot Smith third on 65 points. The young Taynuilt rider also competed in the Oset Trial at the GB round of the World Trials Championship in Bradford and won the D Hard route.
What gave him more pleasure than anything, however, was getting to watch the world’s top trials riders who inspire him.
Talking about his win, Euan said: ‘I’m so happy to be British champion and bring the title back to Scotland, but most of all I like riding with my mates and having fun.’
Simon Armstrong from OSET Bikes said: ‘ We’re all delighted for Euan. He’s practised a lot and it’s been a pleasure to watch his ability increase and his riding mature, which has resulted in him achieving the highest award possible in the UK.’
