BJJ

Oban BJJ is reintroducing mixed martial arts classes on Tuesdays at 7pm. This is focused on the fundamentals of striking, wrestling and BJJ. The other classes continue to focus on competition BJJ. This is to enable the club members who are competing on September 3 in Glasgow to get in the best shape possible. Beginners BJJ is on Fridays at 7pm. This continues to teach from the MNBJJ curriculum and is the perfect first step into groundwork for any martial artist.

Kyokushinkai Karate

The Oban club has young Darryl McLaughlin in training for his participation in the British Open, the UK’s biggest knockdown karate event which is held at the K2 Centre in Crawley. Darryl will be taking part in the cadet (16- and 17-year- old) section and will be up against the top young fighters in the country. Darryl is likely to be the only Scottish competitor at this prestigious event, which regularly sees competitors from all around the world.

This is the perfect time to start training in Kyokushin Karate, which is so much more than a sport. The valuable lessons learned about yourself in training can be carried forward into your everyday life. Beginners are welcome up until the end of September, after which time there will be a closed three-month period for those already training to concentrate on their next grades. The classes work to a national syllabus and grades are recognised throughout the world. For more information contact Iain Rodger on 07584 166542 or iain@ikku.co.uk
