Artemis Macaulay S1 tournament
PRIOR to the Senior Macaulay Final on Saturday three area teams representing Oban/ Ballachulish, Mid Argyll and Cowal and Bute contested a round robin tournament at Glencruitten Park.
This tournament showcases the best talent across the South area at S1 level in the hope that it will promote an increase in participation at this age group.
With three teams competing, each team played the other twice and the winner was decided by who topped the group at the end of the league games.
Mid Argyll were up first against the Oban area team. From the start Oban put pressure on the less- experienced Mid Argyll side and at the end of the 16-minute game had managed to win by 3- 0.
Mid Argyll then faced Cowal and Bute and the Cowal area team put the same score line past Mid Argyll. It was clear that the next game would be close and it was won by a goal to nil against the Oban area team which proved decisive in the end.
The next round of games took place and the younger Mid Argyll side, although still losing both games, had shown a vast improvement getting used to the bigger pitch and playing 12-a- side.
The final game would be a decider between Cowal and Bute and Oban and Ballachulish. As with the first game it was a great match with excellent skills and tactical awareness demonstrated.
Despite some clear chances for both teams, no goals were scored and the Cowal and Bute team won by virtue of their earlier defeat of Oban and Ballachulish.
The victorious team were presented their medals and trophy by Camanachd Association president Jim Barr and thanks went to the MacAulay Association and Artemis which kindly sponsored the event this year.
