Glasgow Letter
As the summer, or what there’s been of a summer on the West Coast, draws to a close, the various kindred associations here in Glasgow prepare for their events over the autumn and winter months.
It struck me last week that August must almost be over when the Glasgow Skye Association syllabus popped through my letterbox and the Lewis and Harris Association published its dates online.
It is easy to come to terms with the passing of another summer when there is so much to look forward to in the coming months.

Thursday November 2: Annual gathering chairman’s dinner in the Glasgow Pond Hotel, Great Western Road, 7.15pm for 7.30pm.
Friday November 3: Annual gathering in the Glasgow University Union - concert at 7.30pm and dance at 10.30pm.
Saturday November 11: Children’s party, Heart of Scotstoun, 1pm-3pm.

Clydebank Highlanders resume cèilidhs
The first Clydebank ceilidh will be held in the Napier Hall, Old Kilpatrick, on Friday September 15 at 7.30 pm. Admission is £8 which includes tea and home baking.
This is the third Friday of the month and not the second as is the norm for a Clydebank cèilidh.
Post-wedding and birthday party
The Park Bar was bouncing on Saturday night for the 21st birthday party of Eilish Brown - as well as the continuation of her brother Rory’s wedding to Danielle the previous day.
Their father, Campbell, and Johnny Scholar (the famous Gunna Sound) provided the music and the whole pub was up for singing all night.
End of an era on Sauchiehall Street
On another note, the Sauchiehall Street night-club, and long-time unofficial extension to the famous ‘teuchter triangle’, O’Neills, has changed hands and is now called Shenanigans - which, by all accounts, is a more appropriate title.
This may hardly seem like headline news but it heralds the end of an era for any Highlander who has been a student in Glasgow in the past 20 years.
So far, absolutely nothing about the venue has changed (other than its title) and the DJ still plays an agreeable blend of chart music, 1980s and 1990s disco, and Trail West, Skipinnish and Runrig, which is just as well, lest their be an almighty outcry.
