Inverlochy win Kingussie shinty sixes

-

AN UNDEFEATED Inverlochy Primary School P6/7 shinty team cruised to victory at the Kingussie primary sixes at the weekend.

In the group stages, the team swept aside some formidable opposition - such as Newtonmore, Beauly and Inverness - to progress to the next round.

In the semi-final, the young Lochaber team met their match in a strong Drakies side. After a tense 0-0 draw, Inverlochy managed to just edged it in the penalty shootout 2-1, which secured them a spot in the final.

The final was less of a contest, with Inverlochy running out 4-1 victors against Alvie to clinch the trophy.

It was a memorable day for captain Archie MacKinnon, who was named player of the tournament. He said: ‘We all played very well. Drakies were the hardest team to beat. My favourite part of the day was scoring from defence against Alvie and winning player of the tournament.’

Cracking

Rhys Kennedy added: ‘It was a cracking tournament and we can’t wait to win all the other games coming up. Ben Briton played amazing up front, Ben Corner and Matthew were brilliant in defence and Angus was outstanding in goals.’

The P6/7 team: Archie Mackinnon (captain), Rhys Kennedy, Ben Britton, Angus Mackinnon, Scott Macleod, Ryan Hunter, Matthew Brown, Ben Corner. Coach: John Macleod.

In the P4/5 tournament, Inverlochy again featured in the final. This time, though, the youngsters narrowly missed out on victory, finishing runner-ups.

The P4/5 team was: Owen O’Hagan, Diezel Mclean, Fergus Ward, James Clark (captain), Lewis Britton, Lex Edgar, Emmy Kennedy and Maddison Macmillan. Lewis, Maddison and Emmy all made their shinty debuts. Coach: Willie MacDonald.
