Successful year for Friends of Oban Hospice
THE Friends of Oban Hospice, the fundraising arm of the hospice, were at the recent Macaulay Cup final where they operated a wheel of fortune and raffle, raising £317.
Prior to the Macaulay Cup, £273 was raised from a home baking stall at the Bank of Scotland, a sum which is to be matched by the bank.
Following these fundraisers in early September was the annual fashion show at the Argyllshire Gathering which raised £1,346 for the hospice charity and last week a coffee morning, which included a raffle, was organised by the friends at Oban Bowling Club, which brought in the splendid figure of £694.
At the first meeting for the new fundraising year, held at Glencruitten Church Hall last Thursday MacLean, evening, Margaret who chairs the friends’ committee, heaped praise on her hardworking and dedicated members as well as expressing gratitude to the generosity of people in Oban and beyond.
The friends look forward to putting on a flower show in November against the backdrop of an afternoon tea and in December there is the well-attended annual Light up a Life evening which provides a platform for people to remember loved ones who have died.
The highlight, however, for 2017 will be the opening of The Dove Centre in Stevenson Street, which will give the hospice its own premises and identity, something the friends have strived for over many years.
