Centre’s under-fives playpark is now open to the public

THE UNDER-FIVES playpark at Atlantis Leisure is now open to the public following years of hard work and fundraising.

The new facility cost around £95,000, which was raised by Friends of Oban Community Playpark.

Chairwoman of the friends Lyndsay Elliot confirmed the news.

‘It is 100 per cent open. It’s just fantastic and a relief. Seeing the children in the playpark makes all the hard work worth it,’ she said.

The under-fives playpark integrates the pirate-ship theme, which it adopted from its neighbour - the five-to-15-year-olds’ park.

The ship’s name has been chosen by an Oban Times reader and will be revealed at the park’s official opening this Saturday (September 30) at 12.30pm in the Atlantis Leisure Centre.

In total, the Friends of Oban Community Playpark raised £334,000 to construct both parks.

They are now focusing on the grand opening, which coincides with Atlantis Leisure’s 25th birthday celebrations.

Lyndsay extended her thanks to the three people from Ardfern who have been working to get the garden area in tip top condition before then.

‘They are coming back next week,’ she said.

‘We are trying to get everything looking fancy as it’s the opening next week.’
