Groups join forces to tidy up Claggan garden

- The team get to work on the Greenfingers community garden.

THE GREENFINGERS community garden in Claggan, Fort William, received a welcome tidy up last week.

The team got their hands dirty alongside volunteers from the Greenfingers committee, Claggan Residents Association, the Men’s Shed, Lochaber Environmental group, the Montrose Centre and Inverlochy Primary School pupils who all helped to dig, clear weeds and put a new cover on the poly tunnel.

Six members of the new management team from the M&S Foodhall due to open in Fort William soon, also joined in the tidy up, hoping to encourage more people to grow their own produce and help bring a splash of colour when spring comes.

While there is still a lot of work to be done, Donald Young, Greenfingers Community Garden treasurer, said: ‘The difference to the site is amazing.

‘We now have a new cover on the poly tunnel, the paths are clear and with the help of Inverlochy Primary School pupils, we have planted bulbs which will provide a splash of colour in the spring.

‘I would like to thank Bowmans for providing the skip, Jewsons for use of the power washer, all the volunteers and in particular the M&S Fort William team for their enthusiasm, energy and support.’
