Lorne lose to Cambuslang
OBAN Lorne made the trip to Glasgow on Saturday full of confidence to take on fellow mid-table side and recently promoted Cambuslang RFC. The men in green were in a buoyant mood after a big improvement in recent performances including a 30-0 thumping of Greenock Wanderers at Glencruitten last weekend.
Coach Corrie Louw made only two changes from last weekend’s win with Iwan Rhys Roberts replacing David McLaughlin on the wing and Alex Houston coming in on the wing in place of Tom Harrison.
It was a close first half with with both teams failing to build on any promising attacking platforms mainly due to some very inconsistent officiating from the referee.
Oban scored through an Andy MacDougall try but trailed at the break 6-5 to the hosts.
The visitors failed to produce the sort of performance that brought the Greenock of the previous Saturday to their knees and were up against a determined Cambuslang team who have obviously rallied together after recently failing to field a side away to Annan.
In the end Oban Lorne lost out 27-11 with the squad left extremely frustrated with their performance in a game they should have won.
The result means Oban slip to tenth place in the league above struggling Helensburgh and Irvine.
This Saturday the Green machine take on familiar rivals Carrick RFC at Glencruitten.
The visitors are sitting near the top of the league and will provide one of Oban’s toughest tests so far this season.
Kick off is 2pm at Glencruitten or North Connel.
