Social media

There was a big response to the news that Country Wide Events had cancelled a planned concert in Oban’s Corran Halls by a Bee Gees tribute band because of poor ticket sales. Only 80 had been sold. The promoter said anyone who had bought a ticket would get a refund if they took it back to the Corran Halls. Niall M Cameron asked: ‘When was this set up and why no advertising? Not that I’m interested in the Bee Gees but hate to see a venue like this not being properly advertised. Social media is a wonderful thing; please feel free to advertise. Still I’m staying alive but it is such a tragedy.’

Douglas Miller posted: ‘Typical Oban attitude towards anything that gets put on. Expect to rock up on the night and pay to get in. Flyers were distributed widely in town. Yet you lot complain nothing goes on in Oban.’

Pearl Turnbull wrote: ‘Sorry to hear this has been cancelled. My husband Frank and I saw them in Eden Court Inverness earlier this year and they were absolutely amazing, best night ever. We would definitely recommend them as they sound just like the real thing.’ John Newlands pondered: ‘Can they not just pretend that 80 people are 200? They have some skills in that area after all.’

Margaret Menassa suggested: ‘In this day and age you would think the Corran halls or promoter would advertise on social media. Wider audience.’

Lisa Aitkenhead complained: ‘Not seen this advertised, I would have been up for this.’

John Hill said: ‘I’ve not seen this advertised anywhere, no wonder the ticket sales are low.’

Jacqueline Cullen agreed: ‘I didn’t see it advertised either.’

Pamela Mcleish exclaimed: ‘Omg! What a shame.’

Malcolm Crooks wrote: ‘What a “tragedy”. Everyone must have been struck down by a “night fever” and are just “stayin alive”.’

Laura Cook posted: ‘Didn’t know about it, or I’d have bought tickets.

DT Gray commented: ‘I’ve been to tonnes of gigs where the band would have been pleased to play to 80 people.’

Karen Anderson lamented: ‘Didn’t know about this. Needs better advertising in future!!!’

Angela Anderson said: ‘Very sad to see this...’

Undine Achilles-Day wrote: ‘I don’t think these things get well advertised. They should have big billboards at the hall so people can see when they drive in what’s going on!’

Catherine Farlow posted: ‘What a shame.’

Fraser Macmillan said: ‘You can’t be serious ?????? Beejusus.’

Colin Macfarlane wrote: ‘Typical Oban.’ Mary C MacLean added: ‘Not seen any adverts either!’
