Our story last week about the chaotic bins situation at Soroba prompted a vociferous response, with residents complaining of bags of rubbish everywhere. Bridget Buick posted: ‘They emptied the bins yesterday and just left all the rubbish sitting there.’

Helen Reid agreed: ‘Oh they did...I have the photographic evidence to support it. I am constantly photographing the bins as evidence.’

David MacLennan suggested: ‘If the council just fired up another couple of big bins it would help the problem.’ Kuba Maciaszek said: ‘The problem is that people don’t use recycling bins.’ Murdo MacKenzie countered: ‘That isn’t the problem, the recycling bins in this particular area are well used.’ Diane Maxwell Graham Kirkham wrote: ‘There’s only one blue bin for three blocks of flats. That’s 24 houses to use one blue bin.’

John McDermott commented: ‘I did use recycle bins for green waste. But they were never emptied ! Flies ended up in house etc. Told them to remove bin or I was contacting environmental health.’

Caroline Tollan complained: ‘I was up there right after the bins were emptied and they left all the black bags behind; where’s the logic in that?’

Samantha Smith posted: ‘People are always placing their rubbish at that bit because they’re too lazy to walk up to the last bin which is always empty.’ Paul Graham said: ‘I noticed on the latest calendar that our recycling day and dates have been changed; should be picked up today and still no sign of them. They did pick up the green bins that were meant to be lifted on Tuesday though.’

Ashley Strang wrote: ‘Plenty people recycle. Not enough bins or collection days. Not so nice when there are young kids out playing near this!! Disgusting.’ Heidi MacColl commented: ‘We just got our new bin collection calendar.. they have jumped a week.. so rather than three blue bin collections this month there are now two.’

Michelle Mac posted: ‘It’s atrocious, we’re always overflowing. Green bin pick-ups need to go back to normal asap.’ Danielle Hay-West said: ‘Just wait till Christmas... It will be twice as high with packaging.’

James Strang warned: ‘Wait until the further cuts come in, this is just the beginning.’
