Kinlochleven pupils in a spin

-

PUPILS and staff at a Lochaber school have raised more than £1,000 for charity after cycling non-stop for six hours.

Kinlochleven High School raised an incredible £1,330 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society by spinning bikes for six hours without stopping – pupils and teachers signed up for 30-minute slots to keep the bikes cycling all day.

The school would like to thank Kim Boa, an Active Schools co-ordinator, and Maria MacDonald, leisure supervisor at the Leven Centre, for organising and running the non-stop Spinathon.

Mrs Machin, head teacher at Kinlochleven High School, said: ‘Staff and pupils have family members who are affected by this disease, so they have first-hand experience of the toll this disease can take.

‘I am so proud of the passion they brought to this fundraising event - £1,330 is a huge amount of money but also such an immense achievement for a small school such as ours.

‘Thank you for doing something amazing to help beat MS.’

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects the nerves (myelin) is damaged, and this causes a range of symptoms.

Once diagnosed, MS stays for life, but treatments and specialists can help to manage the condition and its symptoms.
