Fort slump to narrow defeat in Inverness

-

WITH inclement weather forecast for the Saturday fixture, Fort William FC and Clachnacuddin agreed to switch their scheduled fixture to be played last Wednesday evening, November 8.

The Fort’s campaign has been marred recently by a number of postponements, so this fixture away to mid-table Clach was always going to be a tough away fixture for the Lochaber side.

Despite this, they got off to a decent start and matched their Invernessian counterparts for the opening exchange. Right on the half-hour mark, however, Paul Smith opened the scoring for Clach.

Fort held on until half-time and came out after the break with the intention to level the scores. Just five minutes into the second half, Jack Lingard struck to equalise for the Fort, giving them a lifeline back into the match. The match remained a hard-fought affair with the Lochaber men keen to keep out their opponents.

In the 76th minute, however, Sean Webb netted for Clach to regain the lead. The home side held on to that goal advantage and to take all three points at the final whistle.

Another battling performance from Fort William has once again passed without reward.

Fort William’s match against Keith in the Highland League on Saturday was postponed.

The Fort will be in action this Saturday, November 18, when they travel to take on Rothes in the Highland League.
