Faolan and Kayla win chance to ride with Santa and his reindeer
PUPILS from Lundavra and Caol primary schools will join Santa as the stars of this weekend’s Lochaber Winter Festival as their reward for winning this year's Lochaber Times/Rotary Club of Lochaber Christmas Card Message Competition.
The literary efforts of Faolan Hunter, aged nine, from Lundavra primary, and Kayla Duncan, eight, from Caol primary, were chosen from a fantastic field of 123 entries.
As well as getting the chance to become elves and join Santa on his sleigh with his reindeer on Saturday, Faolan and Kayla will also hopefully see their winning entries used as the festive season messages inside Christmas cards as part of a competition to design a card organised by the Rotary Club of Lochaber.
The competition was judged last week with the winning entries selected by Jodie Ferguson and Mairi Sandison from Ferguson Transport. The company is generously paying all the costs of the reindeer coming to Fort William.
Rotarian Ken Johnston says the club was delighted with the response to the competition and the very high standard of entries.
‘We congratulate both Faolan and Kayla, and hope they enjoy this memorable experience,’ Mr Johnston said.
‘It was thanks to the wide circulation of the Lochaber Times that we attracted 123 entries from as far away as Mallaig Primary School.
‘The club hopes to promote a Christmas card design competition next year in the run up to Christmas 2018 using the winning messages created by Faolan and Kayla.’
