Delight as care home wins national award
ABBEYFIELD Ballachulish Care Home was named Care Home Service of the Year in Scotland at a prestigious awards ceremony on Friday night.
The Lochaber care home was nominated in the Care Home Service of the Year Award category at the Scottish Care Awards and reached the final along with two other central belt services.
The Scottish Care Awards celebrate the best of the independent care home sector in Scotland and recognise individuals, teams and companies, with entries flooding in each year from employers and employees nominating their peers and colleagues.
Abbeyfield Ballachulish is the first service from the Highland area to win the award.
Care home manager Wilma Allan said: ‘On behalf of the voluntary board of trustees and the management in Abbeyfield, I would like to thank all the team that make this such a special and consistently high performing care home, as recognised by Scottish Care with this award. We would like to thank our clients and their families, our local GPs and stakeholders and the wider community for their support of such a small charity in Ballachulish.
‘The charity continues to improve to provide the best holistic care for each individual who uses its services and, despite the current financial climate, will move forward and enhance its services. The recognition from Scottish care can only support Abbeyfield Ballachulish in its quest to provide quality care.’
Abbeyfield Ballachulish is an independent charity reliant on the business it generates on site. The care home provides residential care to 30 clients as well as an additional day care centre for 10 and a daily lunch club for the wider community.
Eleven years ago the home faced closure because of poor performance and financial difficulties before a new manager and board appointed the current award-winning team.
