Young pair have the right idea

-

TWO BUDDING entrepreneurs from the Isle of Lewis and Barra have got the right idea when it comes to business.

Sean Kettle, of Lewis, and Anna MacLean, of Barra, won the Outer Hebrides Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (OHYES) Business Ideas Competition, which coincided with Global Entrepreneurship Week.

A good range of business ideas were received, all of which would have been worthy winners.

The panel of judges deliberated in detail over each application before chosing Sean and Anna, who were each awarded an iPad Pro, with the other entrants receiving a small cash prize. All entrants will be offered Business Gateway support to help turn their ideas into reality.

Business Gateway thanked everyone who entered the competition, which was run in conjunction with the OHYES grant scheme – a joint initiative between Scape Communities ReInvest Fund and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

Councillor Donald Crichton, chairman of the comhairle’s sustainable development committee, said: ‘The entrepreneurial spirit evident through the competition entries is impressive.

'The OHYES grant scheme is an excellent opportunity to assist young people with setting up their own businesses, helping to encourage as many young people as possible to remain in these islands.'

The OHYES grant scheme, being run over two years, was set up to support anyone aged 18 to 40 who lives in the Outer Hebrides who would like to set up a new business.
