It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
YOU know the festive period has begun in earnest when the Glasgow Skye Association Annual Gathering weekend comes round.
This year’s concert will be held tomorrow (Friday December 1) in the Glasgow University Union (GUU) with guest of honour Alastair P Campbell, The Right Honourable Lord Bracadale, singers Catriona Watt, Sineag MacIntyre, Darren Maclean, and Calum Angus Macdonald - with Eilidh MacFadyen on accordion. The piano accompanist for the evening will be Alan Kitchen, and the Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band complete a great line-up. The Dùn Mòr Cèilidh Band will play at the dance following the concert.

Trad awards come to Paisley
WHO can forget, among all this Christmas cheer, the annual MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards which, this year, will take place in the Lagoon Centre in Paisley as Paisley bids for the 2021 UK City of Culture. The votes have all been cast so everyone now awaits the results and, more importantly, a good night of craic, celebration, and (dare I say it) perhaps a wee libation here and there.
Beware, the Vatersay Boys!
AND one can hardly look ahead to Christmas time in Glasgow without a mention of the legendary Vatersay Boys gig in the Barrowland Ballroom which will take place this year on Friday December 8. For Highlanders in Glasgow, the Vatersay Boys gig is as much a Christmas staple as mince pies, mulled wine, and the John Lewis Christmas advert! It is, as always, sold out; and it is bound to be an absolute Christmas cracker.
Glasgow Skye post-Mòd cèilidh
EARLIER this month, the Glasgow Skye Post Mòd Cèilidh was held in the Crawford Hall, Beith Street. It is always a great opportunity for youngsters to perform their Mòd pieces free from competition nerves and scary adjudicators! There was an excellent turnout of parents and friends – and no less than an incredible 27 acts took to the stage ranging through solos, duets, recitations, story-telling, dancing, piping, fiddling, and accordion playing – all giving great performances.
The evening was compered in her usual friendly style by Eilidh Cormack and was generally agreed to have been a most successful function.
