Pupils on song with new CD

-

PRIMARY Gaelic pupils in Caol are hoping to fill stockings this Christmas after recording a festive studio album.

Pre-orders are being taken for a new album featuring the young voices of BunSgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar (Lochaber Gaelic Primary School) pupils.

The album, which goes on sale tomorrow (Friday December 1), is part of a project to raise money for school funds, with partial funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

The CD features new Gaelic Christmas material, produced by famous Scottish traditional musicians.

It includes a new arrangement of ‘Silent Night’ composed by Peter MacPherson, a new translation of ‘O Holy Night’ translated by Flora MacPhail and an Irish version of the hymn ‘Away in a Manger’.

The CD also includes tracks by award-winning duo Iain MacFarlane and Ingrid Henderson, Mòd Gold Medal winner and singer Rachel Walker and Traditional Mòd Gold Medal winner and Lochaber Gaelic School head teacher John Joe MacNeil.

Recorded at Old Laundry Productions in Glenfinnan, the album was engineered by Hector MacInnes and produced by Ingrid Henderson. John Joe MacNeil said: ‘This has been an exceptional experience for our children to be involved in, singing and seeing the recording and production of the CD.

‘I would like to express my thanks to all our children for singing so beautifully. Thanks also to staff, parents and school community. The CD would not have been possible if it were not for the funding support of Bòrd na Gàidhlig as well as the fantastic support of Old Laundry Productions.’

The CD is available to pre-order by going to bsgla.co.uk.
