Brown proves to be the big shot at clay target shoot

-

DUNOON and District Clay Target Club held a 50 clay down the line competition for the J E Jacobson Trophy on January 2.

The changeable weather was maintained for the first shoot of the new year with poor light and heavy showers making for a testing competition.

Despite the conditions, there was a large turn-out of 36 senior guns and two juniors. In addition to the main 50 target ‘down the line’ competition for the J E Jacobson Trophy, there was a very popular pool trap event.

Only five points separated the first five places, with a threeway tie for fourth place. For the second time in three years, the trophy went to Alan Brown, Bute, who shot a solid round of 145 ex 150. Second place with 143 went to Tam Young, North Ayrshire. In third place with 142 was Leighton Reid, Bute. Three guns on 141 tied for fourth place: Derek Street, Glendaruel; Ted Blakeway, Glendaruel; and John Docherty, Bute.

Craig MacKay, Dunoon, was the leading junior, closely followed by Josh Cowan, Bute. The pool trap was won by David Mundell, Blairgowrie, after a closely-fought shoot-off.

The club wishes to thank all the visitors for their support and Amanda and Willie Arthur and the other volunteers for the smooth administration of the event. The contact details and fixtures are on the club website http://www.dunoonanddistrict-ctc.com/
