Lochaber ’s Yells takes top spot

RUNNERS took to the hill again on Sunday as the Lochaber Athletic Club (LAC) winter league resumed after the festive break.

Following the success of the New Year’s Day Aonach Mor uphill race last week, a competitiv­e field of racers lined up at the start of the seventh winter league race of the season: the River Bank race at Lower Falls, Glen Nevis.

It was Lochaber’s John Yells who finished first with a time of 42:47, a minute and a half ahead of fellow LAC runner Stuart Crutchfiel­d, who finished in 44:08. Completing an LAC top three, Gregor Davidson finished in 44:47. Manny Gorman from Westies was the fastest male veteran 40 in fourth place, while Alan Smith of Deeside Runners was the quickest male veteran 50 in sixth place.

Caroline Marwick of Inverness Harriers was the fastest female with a time of 51:01, just missing out on a top 10 finish overall. Lochaber runner Amanda Blackhall was the fastest female veteran 40 with a time of 55:27, while the fastest female veteran 50 was Nix Forster in 01:01:06.

The next winter league race will be the Fassifern Faff at Kinlocheil on Sunday January 21.
