NEVIS Radio is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from Tesco.

Grants of up to £4,000, raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores, are being awarded to community projects throughout the country and Lochaber’s radio station is one of the groups on the shortlist to receive the cash award.

Shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the grant.

Commercial manager at the station Simon Abberley said: ‘We were absolutely delighted when we found out we were shortlisted. Hopefully the community will be behind us.’

If granted, the funds would be put towards a studio refurbishment, which would free up other resources which can be allocated elsewhere. One area could be to cover the high cost of fixing a fault in the station's transmission equipment, which left some listeners in Lochaber without a signal towards the end of 2017.

Voting is open in all Tesco stores throughout January and February. Customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop.

Nevis Radio is also promoting an active January with a sponsored Loch Ness challenge – to swim or row 22.5 miles in 12 weeks. The aim is to raise funds for station expenditure on maintenance and faults. Anyone wishing to take part should email admin@nevisradio.co.uk or call 01397 700007.
