Family hails baby CPR training event a success

-

AN OBAN family who almost lost their son last year have hailed an infant CPR training day they organised a success.

Fearghas and Natalie Lafferty’s son Murray almost died last year when he stopped breathing. Thankfully, Fearghas knew how to carry out CPR and resuscitated his son while Natalie drove to hospital.

After telling the story to friends, who said they wouldn't know how to do that, the couple decided to organise a training event, which was held in The Rockfield Centre on January 27, from noon until 4pm.

Speaking at the event, Fearghas said: ‘It’s been really good. Loads of people came to the training and we have raised lots of money for good causes – Glasgow Children’s Hospital and Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance.

‘I was hoping people would come along and it’s been really busy. People have been really generous, so it’s good.

‘We planned it as a one-off but we have set up a Facebook page, so if people get in touch, we could organise another one.’

Natalie added: ‘Annemarie Pattison from St Andrew’s First Aid has been amazing. Lots of people have been impressed by her.’

Natalie and Fearghas thank family members who they ‘managed to rope in’.

‘All my family have really pulled together,’ said Natalie. ‘I also want to thank Oban Fire Station.’
