Oban Airport is base for new air business
OBAN Airport is to be the base for a new airline business offering flying lessons and sightseeing trips.
Cloud Global Group, an aviation specialist firm which owns Perth airport operator ACS, has announced the acquisition of Border Air Training, a flying school business, gift experience provider and aircraft charter business.
Having offered specialist flight training from its offices in Cumbernauld and Carlisle for the past 25 years, the business incorporates the newly re-branded and re-energised airline Fly Scenic Scotland, as well as Fly Scenic Lake District.
Operating a range of sightseeing flight experiences suitable for both the consumer and corporate markets, the airline has added new routes, launched a new website and added Oban Airport as a new location at which to board.
Border Air also provides aircraft for a range of specialist activities such as agriculture, construction, photography, surveying, observation, patrol and aerial advertisement.
‘Although already a well-established business in its field, Border Air and Fly Scenic Scotland offer us yet more scope for expansion and development, as we continue with our strategy of developing various divisions of aviation,’ said Graeme Frater, director of Cloud Global Group.
‘We are delighted to announce the acquisition, and have immediately launched a new logo and website with easy secure payment options for Fly Scenic Scotland,’ he added. ‘We have quickly made significant new connections in Oban, where there is now the potential to link up with tour group operators, cruise ship providers and the incentive market.’
Cloud Global will additionally be looking to recruit and train more pilots for Border Air, with the future aim of developing a commercial arm.
Launched in 2010 and specialising in flight training, aircraft maintenance, leasing, component support and aviation recruitment, Cloud Global has a fleet of more than 20 aircraft, a staff of 30 and a turnover of £4 million.
