Plenty going on - even with spring still some way off

FEBRUARY is my least favourite month, writes Oban town ambassador Kay McDonald.

Spring still seems too far away, despite the snowdrops, and although it’s getting lighter, it seems to drag.

Thankfully, the next few weekends provide plenty to look forward to and that should make the last dregs of winter pass quickly.

Tonight we have Ballet West in the Corran Halls with Giselle Ou Les Wilis, on Friday a Bodyshop at Home evening in New Hope from 7pm and on Saturday a coffee morning for Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra in Glencruitten Church Hall at 10.30am.

I love coffee mornings for the wonderful home baking and the chance to meet folk for a blether.

Sunday offers something that wee bit different with the Highland Cattle Society’s 127th spring show and sale, with the show on Sunday and the sale on Monday.

It sounds fantastic, having the chance to get a closer look at the very best of this beautiful breed.

Sunday also offers something from Oban Music Society with the Solem Quarter in St John’s Cathedral at 3pm – a chance to hear great music in a wonderful setting.

Next weekend has just as much to look forward to and two chances to get your dancing shoes on.

On Saturday February 17, there will be a Valentine tea dance in aid of the Carers Centre in Glencruitten Church Hall with entertainment by the Re-Searchers and the Boogies as well as a fabulous afternoon tea and, in the evening, a chance to dance off all the cake with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers in the Corran Halls.

Having something to look forward to, even little things, makes the rainy days and dark nights pass more quickly. Roll on spring and warm, sunny days – hopefully.
