WHAT’S ON IN LOCHABER

-

LOCHABER residents will get the chance to see the acclaimed documentary film Resilience in Fort William thanks to the Stramash Social Enterprise.

The film explores the insights science is gaining about the long-term impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) which scientists say is one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression.

The event on Saturday February 10 at Kilmallie Free Church in Caol consists of two parts. First, people will get the chance to view Resilience, which makes clear the hidden struggles many children face.

The second part will comprise a discussion led by two of the people working hard to bring about change in Scotland – research scientist Suzanne Zeedyk and education expert David Cameron – also known as the ‘Real David Cameron’ among educationalists. This will focus not only on raising awareness of ACEs, but on identifying solutions and anyone working with or caring for children and young people will find useful insights at this event. The event starts at 10.30am and runs until 1.30pm, with tickets priced £15.

STAFF and volunteers from Lochaber Sensory Care (LSC) for sight and hearing support will be in Ardnamurchan on Monday February 12.

The outreach team will be at Acharacle Medical Centre from 10.30am to 11.30am and at Strontian Medical Centre from 12.30pm until 1.30pm. At both venues LSC representatives will offer advice and assistance to anyone living with a sight or hearing loss. The team will also provide NHS hearing aid batteries and retubing for hearing aids if required. No appointment necessary.
