Atlantis 5-a-side indoor league gets under way

-

THE ATLANTIS Leisure fivea-side football league returns this weekend with several new teams taking part.

The league will be split into two divisions, with six teams competing in the premiership and seven in the second tier.

With several new clubs this season, a play-off took place last week to determine which league they would be slotted into.

Oban Celtic were 5-2 winners over Expected Toulouse and advanced into the semi finals, where they met Cuan Mor.

‘Looking back, both teams will be disappointed with the way they conducted themselves throughout the match,’ the organisers said.

Bad tempered

‘With some bad tempered challenges and several off the ball incidents, it unfortunately took away from the fact that at times, there was some good football played between the two teams.’

In the end, Celtic won the match 4-1 and advanced to the final, but not before they had two men sent off in the dying minutes.

In the other bracket, new boys, The Argentinas, made light work of their first game, beating OES United 11-3.

They met Soroba in the semi-final, who received a bye in the first round after Oaklea failed to field a team.

It was Soroba who led at halftime through a superbly taken Cammy Kerr counter attack.

Dangerous

The Argentinas had most of the possession, but with last season’s player of the year James Ford in their ranks, Soroba were always dangerous.

But Soroba were unable to find the back of the net thanks to some great saves from Cammy MacMillan.

One player who didn’t have trouble finding the net was Matty Kelly, who fired two shots home to give his team a 2-1 win.

The final, which was considered a bonus match, with Oban Celtic and The Argentinas both qualifying for promotion, was a one-sided affair with The Argentinas beating Celtic 7-0.

However, Oban Celtic, with a number of stated reasons, declined promotion and Soroba will take their place in the premiership.

Looking forward

Speaking about the up-andcoming season, organiser Kevin Keen said: ‘I’m really looking forward to the league starting again.

‘To see the teams almost double from the start is really good on a personal level and for football in the town.

‘Having an average of 100plus footballers coming and playing, when before they never had anything is nice to see.

‘If anyone is interested playing, send me an email phone Atlantis Leisure.’ in or
