Earra-Ghaidheal went in at the break 1-0 up through a wellstruck Kieran Hendry goal, in what was a very tight first half.

Mallaig, who fielded four youngsters, had a great chance to equalise but Earra-Ghaidheal had Adam Mekler to thank for pulling off a miraculous save.

With Earra-Ghaidheal pressing for a second goal, Mallaig had their own keeper to thank for pulling off a string of fine stops to keep them in the game.

After some reshuffling around the hour mark, Oban began to get a foothold in the game. The returning David Smith, who was a contender for man of the match, played some neat football down the left to set up PJ Sinclair who netted his first goal for the club.

This should have seen Oban in a comfortable position but Mallaig hit back straight away to make the scoreline 2-1. The away team never pushed on from this and as the game opened up a bit, debutant Alan Buchanan and fellow sub Ian Rodgers found space up top.

Rodgers will be disappointed not to have scored with a couple of decent efforts, but his link up play with Buchanan was good to watch. Buchanan scored a poachers goal to put the game to bed at 3-1 before going on to grab his second and Oban’s fourth with a fantastic goal.

Oban Earra-Ghaidheal thanked Mallaig FC for coming down for the game and to everyone who donated to the Nancy Glen Fund.
