Oban’s charity dance concert is hailed as a raving success

-

Hundreds of Obanites danced to some of the country’s top DJs in the Corran Halls on Saturday night – all in the name of charity.

The We’ll Dance This Road Together event was headlined by Clyde 1’s George Bowie and raised money for the DMI Cancer Trust.

George waived his fee for the concert and instead donated it back to the charity.

Tony Howlett organised the gig after losing his dear friend, Nonny MacInnes, to cancer last year.

Nonny was the founder of the DMI Cancer Trust, which raised more than £40,000 in three years through its annual We’ll Walk This Road together charity concert.

The amount raised from Tony’s gig is still up in the air as sponsorship money is still coming in, but hundreds of people attended, with top DJs such as Jamie B, Trevor Reilly, Sparkos, and Mark Maclaughlan performing.

As well as this, local DJs, Mark Gowdie, Pat Steeman, Stuart Fraser, Bryan L, Neil Gillies and Drew Walker also entertained the crowd the venue’s second room.

Speaking about the event, Tony said: ‘It was very good and there was no trouble at all, so I’m happy with that.

‘Everyone was outstanding. All the DJs did their bit.

‘George Bowie was excellent. He donated his fee back to the charity … he didn’t want any money at all.

‘I would like to thank all the sponsors, the Corran Halls – the staff were excellent – the stewards, and Kirsty MacKenzie, who did some face painting for us. She raised a good couple of hundred pounds for the charity.

‘Overall, successful busy.’

The next event for the calendar is the We’ll Walk This Road Together 2018 charity concert, which takes place on September 22 at the Corran Halls.
