Close games at Atlantis

-

A SERIES of close matches took place this week in Atlantis Leisure’s five-a-side football league.

Cuan Mor 5 OHS 02’s 4

In the first match of the evening, Cuan Mor took on debutants Oban High School (OHS) 02s.

Cuan Mor won the match, but OHS will no doubt be feeling aggrieved they weren’t able to get something from a game after hitting the underside of the bar three times.

Argentinas 7 Soroba 5

In the second match, which was tight until the last kick of the ball, Argentinas kept a hold of the ball well and took a two goal lead.

However, Soroba benefited from the returning Paul Kerr, who has been out of action for a long time with a knee injury.

And through the reigning player of the season, James Ford, they hit back and got back in the match.

But every time they closed the gap, Argentinas pulled away.

Towards the end of the game, Dene Cassells put the ball in the bottom corner to make it 6-5. Soroba pushed for the equaliser, but man of the match Matty Kelly killed the game off with an excellent finish.

Oban Celtic 6 OES United 4

Oban Celtic’s first match since declining promotion to the premiership saw them come up against the side probably most similar to their style of play.

OES took the lead through Richard McQueen following some nice build up play. McQueen slotted the ball into the bottom corner in what was his first venture into the opposition’s half.

Oban Celtic hit back with three goals in quick succession. The game threatened to boil over after a coming together of a few bodies, but to both teams credit, it never got any more heated than that.

Man of the Match was Oban Celtic’s Ross MacMillan, who showed great skill, combined with a couple of tidy finishes.

Oaklea 3 Expected Toulouse 9

Despite the scoreline, this match was extremely close, especially in the first half, with Oaklea enjoying more of the ball, but it was Toulouse who were 5-0 up at half time.

With Oaklea having Saints’ number one Graeme Douglas between the sticks, it took several inch perfect finishes from Robert Johnston to put them in front.

The second half was a closer affair and Oaklea deservedly got on the score sheet.

It was Expected Toulouse, however, who picked up their second win in a row, with some excellent play and ruthless finishing led by man of the match Robert Johnston.

The league is now postponed for two weeks.
