The Oban Times

For the love of Oban...

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

IT’S FAIRLY obvious that I love living in Oban and I could go on at length about the joys and benefits, and frequently do, especially on a nice day – and I’m not alone in that.

There are people all over the world who come from Oban, have been to Oban, or who have aunties, uncles or friends who live here. It seems you can’t go anywhere without meeting someone who has a connection.

My connection is fairly basic – Oban is my home, with all that means to me. I love the place and the people; I love the beauty and the friendliness; and, weird as it sounds, I even love the thought that one day I’ll be in Pennifuir Cemetery with all my family and friends.

This all came out of a conversation with friends and left me curious about other people’s connection to Oban, how they came to be here or know of Oban and how they feel about it. So I’m putting the question out there and I would really like to know how everyone else feels about Oban and their connection to it, no matter where or who you are and then perhaps I can share it with everyone.

I have a friend who moved here in the 1970s to work for one summer season and was still here 17 years later; an uncle who left Oban in his early 20s, who is now in his 80s and still reads The Oban Times every week.

What’s your connection? Email kay@bid4oban or write to Kay McDonald, 43 Stevenson Street, Oban, PA34 5NA.

Last week’s photograph was of the wall near the Railway Pier and I think most of you would have got that one.

This week’s is of something a wee bit newer, so keep your eyes open!
