Tiree Music Festival announces first acts
Tiree Music Festival has confirmed its first acts on the official TMF Facebook page for this year’s festival.
The line-up includes Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Wolfstone, Trail West, Martyn Joseph and Elephant Sessions. More acts will be announced on the Facebook page and website in the coming months.
The festival will run from Friday to Sunday, July 13 to 15 this year. The early bird tickets already sold out in 48 hours in November.
The multi-award-winning festival was founded in 2010 by Tiree locals Daniel Gillespie and Stewart MacLennan, and it has continued to sell out every year since. It has also won nine national awards, most recently Best Small Festival at the National Outdoor Event Awards.
Tiree Music Festival also announced a new youth artistic programmer for 2018 in partnership the Year of Young People, a year-long initiative by the Scottish Government to create a platform for young people aged eight to 26.
Thirteen young people applied for the role of youth artistic programmer at TMF and the organising team were amazed at the high calibre of entries. After much consideration, Jamie MacDonald, who is from the Isle of Tiree and has recently graduated with first class BA honours degree in Applied Music, has been confirmed as the successful candidate.
Jamie has a keen interest in the culture, music and language of the west coast of Scotland, and he is passionate about creative arts, especially music and the traditional music scene.
Jamie said: ‘I am so delighted to have been appointed as the youth programmer for Tiree Music Festival. As a local to Tiree, I have always attended the festival, whether as part of the crowd or playing as part of my own band, so it is a huge honour to be given this opportunity to become part of the organising team. I can’t wait to get started.’
New to TMF 2018 will be the Elevate stage. This new outdoor stage will showcase the best talent on the Scottish music scene with its line-up focusing on up-and-coming Scottish artists.
The Elevate stage is supported by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, managed by EventScotland and part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate.
During 2018, Scotland will put its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine. The Year of Young People 2018 is a year-long programme of events and activities that will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they are made of.
