Lochaber enthusiasts pup down to Birmingham for Crufts

-

THE long trip south to Birmingham NEC for last week’s Crufts dog show certainly proved worthwhile for several of the Lochaber contingent of canine enthusiasts who made the journey.

One of the most popular results was last Thursday’s third place for the Scottish team in the Rally Obedience Inter-regional Competition.

With the assistant manager being Ballachulish resident Sarah Holroyd, for the second year running, and Glencoe’s Ann Winning and her Cavalier King Charles spaniel Rowan (Narayden Black Coffee) waiting in the wings as a reserve member, it made for compulsive viewing of Crufts television coverage.

Sarah, who is also acting secretary of Lochaber and District Canine Society, told us: ‘We had an amazing time at Crufts. I am pleased to tell you the rally team came third overall.

‘They had all worked hard and performed wonderfully on the day.’ Sarah says the the competition was tough and all Scottish team members and their dogs competed well and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

While Ann and Rowan were not called on to compete, they had the opportunity to experience a practise round on a course in the big ring at Crufts.

A number of other members of the Lochaber and District Canine Society and their dogs also notched up good performances in various other classes and events in front of the thousands of spectators at this year’s Crufts competition.

The Lochaber and District Canine Society meets on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm in the Nevis Centre where it offers puppy classes, companion dog training, ring craft, good citizen dog training and assessments, as well as rally obedience training.
