Kilmonivaig church opens refurbished hall and welcomes new elders

-

SOMETIMES churches struggle to find people to take on key roles, but not at Kilmonivaig, which sits just below the Commando Memorial and serves a parish covering Spean Bridge, Roybridge and surrounding areas.

On Sunday March 4, the existing Kirk Session of six elders was joined by eight new members. The congregation enjoyed the celebration as six people were newly ordained and two who have previously been elders elsewhere were added to the group.

The church hall has recently been refurbished with funding from Highland LEADER and an official opening took place on the afternoon of Sunday March 4.

Lord Lieutenant, Cameron of Lochiel, performed the official opening. Guests from St Margaret’s Catholic Church, community groups, Highland LEADER and Highland Council joined former minister Rev Donald MacQuarrie, former interim moderator Rev Adrian Varwell, current minister Rev Richard Baxter and members of the congregation for the celebration.

It is hoped the hall will be used by a wide range of community groups and will also be of value when events take place at the Commando Memorial.

Rev Richard Baxter said: ‘The opening of the new hall and the ordination of new elders are signs of life and growth in a flourishing rural church. In the months ahead, we’re also hoping to welcome new members and to find new ways to serve our local community.’
