Ceòl Cholasa 2018 line-up

-

CEÒL Cholasa, nicknamed the best wee festival in the west, is only a matter of months away and this could be the last chance to secure a ticket.

The festival will get underway on the evening of Thursday September 13, all the way through to late afternoon on Sunday September 16.

The annual Colonsay-based music festival began in 2008 and has sold out every year since. The organisers attribute its success to the intimate atmosphere and award-winning acts that get stuck in every year.

There is a great lineup in 2018, including arguably the biggest band on the traditional scene at the moment, Tide Lines, who are this year’s Thursday night headliners.

The Glasgow-based band influenced by is the music of their native Highlands and islands, and emerged in the summer of 2016. Their debut album ‘Dreams We Never Lost’ rose to number 14 in the iTunes UK download chart.

The line-up also includes the multi-award-winning acapella group, The Young’uns, who currently hold the title of Best Group at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for the second year running.

The Jarlath Henderson Band, whose frontman was the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Folk Award, will be playing on the Saturday and Sunday.

There will be Gaelic songs from both Highland quartet Beira and electronic duo WHYTE. Favourites Cara will be returning and Fara, Hamish Napier and Innes Watson will be wowing with both tunes and songs in the new hotel venue and of there will be concerts from wonderful local artists.

The Late Night Ceòl Ceilidh takes place as Saturday night gives way to Sunday morning with music from the Caitlin McNeill Ceilidh Band and special guests.

There is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the artists themselves as they host workshops throughout the weekend. Not to mention the sessions at the festival club which runs into the small hours every night.

A full weekend pass is £80 and gains entry to all of the concerts, workshops and ceilidh. It can be booked online at ticketsource.co.uk

Accommodation can be found on the Visit Colonsay website or by checking the updated list on the Ceòl Cholasa festival website.
