Lochaber Yacht Club push the boat out this summer

LOCHABER Yacht Club in Fort William is pushing the boat out this May by offering people the chance to try their hand at sailing.

The club is inviting all ages and families to come and try sailing for free on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 (from 2pm to 5pm).

‘We’re inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing, see what Lochaber Yacht Club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, you might just get hooked.’ said Hamish Loudon, club commodore.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water, RYA Push the Boat Out which takes place throughout May is the perfect time to give it a go.

The nationwide event will see thousands of people taking part in the sailing activity, with open days and taster sessions taking place at sailing clubs and centres across the country.

Starting at 2pm, on May 12 and 13 there will be sailing ‘taster sessions’- for all ages, in dinghies and yachts, lead by experience­d and enthusiast­ic club members. Refreshmen­ts will be available in the LYC clubhouse.

The sessions can be as physical or as relaxing as you want to make it, you can sail with others or on your own, do it competitiv­ely or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outside in the elements.
